The NLGJA Convention Program

Last week I participated in the Student Project at the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association 2011 convention, in Philadelphia. It was an amazing experience, where I was lucky enough to work with some brilliant mentors on two pieces. One is a pre-convention preview of the highlighted speakers and panels. And the other is an audio piece about New Hope, PA, recently revealed to be one of the Top 10 cities where same-sex couples are concentrated in the country.

The Student Project is a great experience for current and recently graduated journalism students. You meet all kinds of professional journalists who are more than willing to give some advice. And as a bonus, this year the project was sponsored by Comcast and NBCUniversal–as a gift, they gave every participant a Flip cam and an iPad!
