Frank Bruni is a veteran reporter of the Detroit Free Press and the New York Times, among other publications, and an M.S. ’88 graduate from Columbia Journalism School. Bruni is currently an op-ed columnist for the Times, and the newspaper’s first openly gay person to hold the position. Before becoming a columnist he was Rome bureau chief for two years and the Times‘ chief restaraunt critic for five years.
On January 30, 2013, Bruni spoke in the World Room at the Columbia Journalism School about restaurant criticism, transitioning from reporting to opinion writing, and being a gay journalist.
